Samlot is about 25km on a dirt road from Memoria. It is a land of former Khmer Rouge stronghold. Samlot is not turning itself to a destination of ecotourism—waterfalls and wildlife and agro-tourism—pepper farms, fruit farms, and vegetable farms.
Hiking or adventure at Ta Pes Mont, just across Ba Lang River, is a great way to see a beautiful natural landscape and wildlife. This Mont is under the protected area of Maddox-Julie-Pitt Foundation. It is one of the few remaining areas of Southeast Asia that remains unexploited and unexplored, and new species are discovered here regularly. Once under threat of mining and deforestation, thanks to the actions of locals and NGO’s the area is now flourishing and hiking here is a memorable experience, immersing you in pristine landscapes and unspoiled natural beauty.
Samlot Waterfall is located in a beautiful natural depression surrounded by lush green vegetation and fills a natural pool filled with crystal clear-clean water. Trees, ferns, creepers roots and other vegetation surround and overhang the pool giving the impression of a blanket of vegetation which provides shade and cools the waters. The waters themselves are clear clean spring water and provide a refreshing dip after the short trek through the jungle to get here.
The waterfall is just located 300 meters walk from the nearby Maddox-Julie-Pitt Foundation, a Conservation Center, ensuring that its pristine natural beauty is preserved and providing ease of access. This center was founded by Angela Jolie as part of her ongoing efforts to preserve the heritage and beauty of her adopted son’s homeland.
